What is Chiropractic Treatment?

Traditional and alternative therapies are both used by chiropractors. It is believed that the body can heal itself if the spine is correctly aligned. Chiropractic adjustments can also be used to treat tissue damage caused by a traumatic event, such as a fall or repetitive stress like sitting for prolonged periods without adequate back support.

Chiropractic care is often used to relieve pain in the muscles, joints, bones, and connective tissues like cartilage, ligaments, or tendons. Sometimes, it is used in combination with other forms of medicine.

The initials "DC", denote a chiropractor. This is usually a bachelor's degree with four years of chiropractic training.

The Chiropractic Independence MO chiropractic profession focuses on the treatment of neurological and musculoskeletal disorders. Chiropractors also specialize in adjustments to the spine and supporting parts like the back muscles, cervical spine, coccyx, and others.

According to multiple studies, manual therapies are often used by chiropractors to treat lower back pain, lumbar herniated disk, radiculopathy, and neck pain.

Primary Care by a Chiropractor

Manual therapy is used to treat common lower back pain. This is the foundation of chiropractic care. Two main types of primary chiropractic treatment are available.

Manual or Spinal Adjustment.

This type of manual adjustment is used to improve functionality, reduce nerve irritation and restore range. It uses a short lever arm thrust with high velocity. This procedure is also known as "spinal adjustment".

Chiropractic therapy is a safe and effective treatment for lower back pain sufferers. This notion is supported by several published guidelines in the medical literature. They recommend that people suffering from low-to-the-ground conditions seek chiropractic treatment early in their recovery process.

Chiropractic Mobilization.

Chiropractic mobilization is a low-speed adjustment, movement, and stretching of joints and muscles that increase the range of motion in certain areas.

Because they are focused on the correction of spine problems, osteopaths are unique in their treatment of patients with spinal issues. A chiropractor might use more than just a chiropractic adjustment to treat a patient. Natural therapies, which are not dependent on drugs, have been a cornerstone in chiropractic care since 1912.

These are some of the most common methods used by chiropractors

The following physiological therapeutic measures are often used in chiropractic treatment:

Massage.

Soft tissue manipulation can be used by chiropractors to accelerate the healing process and reduce inflammation. Massage therapists can help with lower back pain.

Nutritional therapy. Many chiropractors recommend that patients change their diets after spinal manipulation to relieve back pain.

Nerve stimulators can be applied to the skin (TENS).

The most popular type of electrical stimulation is TENS. It uses electrodes that are placed on the pain area. This allows the user to adjust the intensity of the stimulation. TENS blocks pain impulses from reaching the nerves and releases endorphins, which are the body's natural painkillers.

Traction.

A system of rolling rollers moves around the backs of patients, stretching and massaging their backs simultaneously. Patients can lie on their stomachs while they are being massaged. Non-surgical spinal decompression is another option. This involves the use of decompression devices by chiropractors to alleviate pressure on the spinal nerves.

Far-infrared light.

A thermal camera can be used by a chiropractor to see the blood flow in the back of a patient. Red hues, for example, would indicate a higher IR radiation and a greater blood supply to the back. Infrared radiation may be used by chiropractors to differentiate between normal and abnormal temperatures and assess the root causes of back pain.

Ergonomics.

Your chiropractor might suggest that you change your workstation in order to receive chiropractic care. Applying an ergonomic/work-related change or engaging in an irksome hobby can directly impact whether or not patient satisfaction goals are met. You can find out more at the Ergonomics Health Center.

Stabilization of the pelvis

When there is a subtalar instability, leg-length shortening, or a flat foot, a chiropractor may recommend arch supports.

These techniques can be used by chiropractors or not depending on their individual needs. We are happy to share additional information with you about managing your patients.
